How to check if a Discord decoration seller is legit

Seven quick checks before you pay anyone for a Discord decoration, effect or nameplate.

By CheapCord team · · 3 min read

Discord decorations, effects and nameplates are cheap on resellers, and that is exactly why scams exist. Most are easy to spot if you know what to look for. Run any seller through these seven checks, including us.

A real delivery is a link that starts with discord.com/gifts/. You open it while logged in to Discord, you see the item named on a gift card, and you press Claim. It works like a gift from a friend.

Be careful if a seller sends you anything else: a file, a "code" to paste somewhere, or a link on another domain.

2. It must never ask for your login

No real seller needs your Discord password, your token or a login code. Not at checkout, not in support, not in DMs. If anyone asks, close the tab. The item is delivered to you as a gift, so there is nothing for them to do inside your account.

3. You should see what you're buying before you pay

You should be able to look at the exact item, see a preview, and see the price. A good store also shows what Discord charges for the same item, so you can check the saving yourself. Prices that are "too good" with no shop page to look at are a red flag.

4. Payment should go through a payment company

Paying through a known payment processor, with an invoice and a status, is much safer than being sent a wallet address in a private message. With an invoice you can see whether your payment arrived. With a loose address you only have the seller's word.

5. You should be able to track the order

After you pay, there should be an order page or a confirmation that shows what's happening: payment seen, item being bought, gift ready. If the only thing you get is "wait, I'll message you", you have no way to know where your money is.

6. The refund and delivery rules should be written down

Look for a refund page and terms before you pay. They should say what happens if the item can't be delivered, and how long a gift link stays valid. Discord gift links expire after a while, so a seller who says nothing about it hasn't thought it through. A real person should be reachable on live chat, email or Discord.

7. Reviews should come from outside the seller's own site

Anyone can paste five-star reviews onto their own page. Look for reviews on a separate platform such as Trustpilot, and for a review page that says who is allowed to write them. On CheapCord only buyers who received an order can leave a review, and you can also read our Trustpilot reviews.

Start small

Whoever you buy from, test with the cheapest item first. A single decoration costs a couple of dollars, and if the gift link works and the support was friendly, you've learned what you need to know.
